The plus value of the CAVALOR quality
CAVALOR horse feeds enjoy an excellent reputation. Attention to quality and permanent controls, the nutritional balance of the compositions, the well-being and knowledge of horses and the different races of horses remain of primary importance for CAVALOR.
Quality assurance as a constant value
CAVALOR has obtained various quality labels, among which GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points). What do these guarantees of reliablity mean in practice?
GMP came into being at the end of the eighties within the food sector itself as a quality system in the Netherlands aiming at - in the eyes of ISO (International Standardization Organization) - a stricter internal control of working methods, with independent external controls.
Our company was one of the first in Belgium to participate in this advance. Then in 1998, the recognition and registration of animal food manufacturers was officially regulated on the European level, the Belgian authorities relied on the GMP system for attributing licenses.

HACCP, another quality system originally developed for the human food industry for detecting and assessing quality risks, which has since also been introduced into the cattle food industry. This is an extension of GMP and it has therefore been named GMP+ and includes an external audit.
At CAVALOR the production, the trade and the transport of horse feed is subject to increased quality control, relying on procedures, laboratory controls (continuous monitoring accompanied by among others physical, chemical and micro-biological analysis) and recording, both for common and for specific feeds.
The integral traceability of the nature and the origin of the raw materials used, the sampling and the conservation of the raw materials and the feeds produced are fixed by law. All these prescribed procedures are of course part of our system of quality control.
Natural, high quality raw materials
As in all fields there are big differences in the quality of raw materials. Since CAVALOR knows better than anyone what high quality is, there can be no concessions on this subject. Already on purchasing, quality comes first and when the raw materials arrive they are subject, before being used, to an in-depth analysis which only tolerates minimal discrepancies. This strict quality control policy gives CAVALOR horse feeds their plus value.
High level composition and production
CAVALOR horse feeds are prepared with much care and are above all consistent. The technical compositions are available to horse nutritionists and vets. Moreover CAVALOR horse feeds enjoy an extensive service which ensures distributors who have been trained to advise clients and can always call on CAVALOR's national and international experts.
Nutritional balance
The right proportion between roughage and concentrate feeds, between the horse's energy needs and the substances proposed, between the nutrients themselves... CAVALOR horse feeds are composed so that you can administer an optimal food ration.
In-depth research and practical experience
CAVALOR horse feeds are composed on the basis of in-depth research on the optimal nutritional values which develop innovative concepts on the plus points certain raw materials can contribute. At the same time practical food tests were conducted with horses in different sporting disciplines, at every level, with pregnant and suckling mares, foals and yearlings. These tests were carried out in Belgium, Germany, France and the Netherlands; thus CAVALOR feeds were able to be tasted - with great satisfaction - in different circumstances.
Knowledge of horse races, digestion, physiology and sporting efforts
The differences in the digestion and transformation of food into energy and nutritional elements determine the horse's condition and the performance. CAVALOR has conducted an in-depth study on the needs of sporting and breeding horses, giving particular attention to the breed and the effort. The results of this study are found in the quality of CAVALOR horse feeds.
